Seasonal Music
I've been sitting here, on my day off,(hope he doesn't get many of those, you might be thinking by the end of this!!!!), recalling, how in years gone by, there was always a lot of seasonal type songs around to buy/listen to. I know that until I hear Bruce and 'Santa Claus' on the radio, then it just doesn't seem like Christmas at all!!. In recent years, the lure of the easy buck, talent show winners, and general lack of real musical talent out there has meant that there have been no real attempts at a 'modern, up to date' Christmas song...one that will stick in your mind, and always remind you of the time of year, like 'Santa Claus' does for me. So........there I am, listening to Ken Bruce the other morning...and on comes this song I've never heard before...and it hits me the same way that Bruce does with SCICTT....the first listen and I'm thinking...It's Christmas time!!..not sure if it's a new song or not..but I thought...at last!!...an 'Original' Christmas song..one worthy of the No.1 at this time of year....IMHO!...Anyways...I'll share the song...you may like it, you may not...but the reason I'm starting this thread is to ask you guys for your contribution...a 'NEW' seasonal song...paste a link...and let us all share in some real seasonal music..see if we can make things a little more festive.....enjoy...hopefully..lol!!

Re: Seasonal Music
Not new...but wonderful........
:)
Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall?
It’s the time that every Santa has a ball
Does he ride a red nosed reindeer?
Does he turn up on his sleigh?
Do the fairies keep him sober for a day?
So here it is,
Merry Christmas,
Everybody’s having fun,
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun.
Are you waiting for the family to arrive?
Are you sure you’ve got the room to spare inside?
Does your Granny always tell you
That the old songs are the best,
Then she’s up and rock ‘n’ rollin’ with the rest...
So here it is,
Merry Christmas,
Everybody’s having fun,
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun.
Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall?
Are you hoping that the snow will to start to fall?
Do you ride on down the hillside
In a bobby you have made?
When you land upon your head then you’ve been Slade.
So here it is,
Merry Christmas,
Everybody’s having fun,
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun. (x 4

Re: Seasonal Music
Drew, for one awful moment I thought you were singing the praises of that other record Ken Bruce has been playing - "Santa is a Scotsman".

Re: Seasonal Music
Thinking about seasonal music, one of my faves is Frank Kelly's Christmas Countdown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LwjoQ0own0
But - I am on a quest to find a song I heard 3 or 4 years ago on some unknown radion station in the midlands about the man who wrings the turkeys neck at christmas - can anyone help? Put me out of my misery

Re: Seasonal Music
Good idea for a thread, Drew. It's not new, but Christmas for Cowboys by John Denver is one of my favorites. It's on his Christmas album. I couldn't find an mp3 of it, but here are the lyrics:
Tall in the saddle, we spend Christmas Day,
driving the cattle over snow-covered plains.
All of the good gifts given today,
ours is the sky and the wide open range.
Back in the cities they have different ways,
football and eggnog and Christmas parades.
I'll take my saddle, and I'll take the reins,
It's Christmas for cowboys on the wide-open
plains.
A campfire for warmth as we stop for the night,
the stars overhead are Christmas tree lights.
The wind sings a hymn as we bow down to pray,
It's Christmas for cowboys, on the wide-open plains.
Tall in the saddle we spend Christmas Day,
driving the cattle over snow-covered plains.
All of the good gifts given today,
ours is the sky and the wide open range.
It's Christmas for cowboys, on the wide open plains.

Re: Seasonal Music
..excellent timing, tonight we're seeing The Saw Doctors & The Pogues this is guarenteed to be played, question is who'll be doing Kirsty's part?
It was christmas eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, wont see another one
And then he sang a song
The rare old mountain dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you
Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
Ive got a feeling
This years for me and you
So happy christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true
Theyve got cars big as bars
Theyve got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
Its no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold christmas eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me
You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of new york city
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night
The boys of the nypd choir
Were singing galway bay
And the bells were ringing out
For christmas day
Youre a bum
Youre a punk
Youre an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy christmas your arse
I pray God its our last
I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Cant make it all alone
Ive built my dreams around you

Re: Seasonal Music
I've done a little digging.....and the Rob Thomas song is not as current as I thought...being released in 2002...so ..in light of that.....and, whilst we all love the 'oldies'......we're looking for some songs from this century.....any ideas?

Re: Seasonal Music
I posted elsewhere recently about Marah's album - A Christmas Kind of Town. Well worth downloading.
