Had a strange and very creepy incident at home this evening.

It's nice to know that the cops arrive as quickly as they do. I had just finished telling the story to the police operator. She told me she was sending the police over. I hung up the phone and went out onto the front porch to wait for them and 3 Sheriff patrol cars showed up from 3 different directions! That is what I call service!

Warning, this is going to be a long story.

I was watching TV in the living room and Keith was watching TV in the family room. Keith said "Who was knocking on the door?" I didn't hear anyone knock and the dogs were with me and they didn't bark either.

I was hoping it wasn't my in-laws and was planning on pretending I wasn't home if it was them. I peeked through the drapes and saw a man walking away from our house. He was extremely animated and not in a good way. I could see that he was gesturing a lot and talking rather loudly to himself.

Now, my house is situated so that you can't see very much of the street from the house. My inner gut was telling me not to go outside but he was acting so oddly and he was headed to my nice neighbor's house so I went out to the drive-way to look. That neighbor doesn't live very close to our house.

He pounded on my neighbor's door and they didn't answer. I can't see their porch due to all of the trees but as soon as I saw the guy head back down the street towards my house I started booking it for the back door.

He saw me and started yelling. I was trying to make out what he was saying and finally figured out he was yelling "I am your neighbor! I am your neighbor!" Uh, no you are not. I only have 2 neighbors here and you don't live at either house.

He quickly cut across my lawn and headed towards me. I had been edging my way towards the door since I saw him but he got to me before I got in the door. And I kind of had the feeling that things might be worse if I just ran in the house and slammed the door. My sixth criminal sense (honed by working with criminals for the last 20 years!) told me to be somewhat 'nice' to him because he knew where I lived.

As soon as he got near me I could tell that he was pretty high. I figured he was on crack or crystal meth because he was so damn agitated. Also thought he might have been using heroin or another opiate in conjuction with the stimulant to try to come down a bit. I learned all of this stuff when I worked as a nurse at a drug rehab btw. I don't have personal experience with any of these drugs. emoticon They don't look like any fun at all.

Re: Had a strange and very creepy incident at home this evening.

He was blabbering away at me about 100 miles a minute. I was having trouble keeping up. He talked faster than anyone I have ever met.

He started off saying "I am your neighbor! Do you know Rob and Carol Emanuel? Dr. Emanuel? They are my parents. You must see my mom walking her two Pomeranians around here."

He was talking so fast that I didn't have a chance to process what he was saying and ask questions. We do have a ton of people that walk their dogs around here but when I had a chance to think about it I realized that I had never, ever seen anyone walking a pair of Pomeranians. I think he was deliberately flooding me with information like a good con artist would but also with a big dose of crazy.

He whipped out some tale about how he had a chance to go to a radio broadcasting school in California. He asked me if I was familiar with a particular radio station and I said no. Then he said "Do you know who Rush Limbaugh is?" I responded in a manner that let him know that I was not a fan. Then he said "Well, this radio station isn't anything like that one."

He also made another political reference when he was telling me his last name. He said his last name was spelled exactly like "the mayor of Chicago". I thought it was weird that he was making a reference to Rahm Emanuel. A lot of the general public couldn't come up with the name of the Vice President much less the mayor of Chicago.

He gets done with his speil about the radio station and just stood there. I was waiting for the rest of the con. I told him "Well, if you want to be on the radio you have to SLOW down a lot." Then he told me "Oh, I have ADHD and I used to stutter."

I finally said "Well, why are you here?" He said "They told me if I want to be on the radio that I have to get used to speaking to the public. They told me I had to get out there and start knocking on people's doors. I have been to your house 4 different times already and you never answered the door! 4 TIMES!"

I wasn't liking how things were going. I expected to be hit up for money by then. And I was starting to wonder why in the !@#$ my husband had not come out by then since he was the one that mentioned the door knocking in the first place!

In the end he finally did ease my mind a bit and asked me to purchase some books for Children's Hospital. "You don't even have to pick the book. They just rotate them." I honestly thought people had given up on these 'buy some books or magazines so I can go to camp' schemes!

I asked him for the info and said I would check it out on the internet. He told me "I don't have time for that!! My dead-line is in 20 minutes! I needed 50 people to do this and I only need 2 more to make my dead-line! 48 of your neighbors did it! I've been to your house 4 TIMES!"

I said "Let me see if my husband has any cash." and I went into the house.

Keith was sitting on the sofa watching TV and I said "This guy is really weird. He's creeping me out on every level." Keith said "What do you want me to do about it?" emoticon

I said "Never mind!! I'll handle it!" and went back outside only this time I let the dogs out with me. I knew they would bark and make a fuss and that was why I let them out.

Reece and Hershey are not the great protectors like Frankie was. Frankie was not your typical Golden Retriever; he had an extremely protective nature when it came to me and that just increased as he aged. My sister did remind me tonight that Frankie didn't do anything to deter a burglar that broke into our house years ago but I told her that was a different situation. I wasn't home at the time and I didn't need protection. Plus he was only about 2 years old then.

Jaysus Keyrhist. You would think I lived in the inner city of Detroit due to the number of incidents I have had out here!! Detroit is over 60 miles from here! This is like the country out here.

Keith finally did get up and come outside and I would like to say that he was concerned about me but the truth is that he realized I had let his precious Hershey out and he was concerned about the dog! Keith came running out and said "You let Hershey out without a leash?!!" and he started calling Hershey. Hershey won't come when Keith calls him but he will when I call him and give him the hand signal.

We keep the dog's leashes in the garage and Keith ran in and came back with just Hershey's leash. I guess Reece and I know where we stand now! LOL.

After Keith had safely secured his dog he addressed the crazy man that was standing there. Keith just said "We are not interested." and the guy just exploded and started screaming. "I'm your neighbor! I have been here 4 times! I was talking to your wife and she was nice to me! You are an ASSHOLE!"

Things escalated from bad to worse in 1/2 second. Keith said "Who the !@#$ do you think you are doing this in broad daylight?" That cracked me up later on. Would it have been better if the guy came over when it was dark?! I don't think so.

Then the guy started calling Keith the 'f' word. I find this word to be so offensive that I can't even type it. It's as bad as the 'c' word to me. Slanderous term for gay men or slang for cigarettes in England. I found his use of that word to be a bit odd because I have finely honed gaydar from my work history as well and I thought this guy was gay right from the start. No judgment, just an observation.

That really pissed Keith off and he aggressively moved towards the guy and said "Get the !@#$ of my property now!" Then I was really worried that they would get physical and I didn't know if this guy had a weapon or not. And trying to call Keith back when his temper flares is useless. Thankfully the guy was making a fast retreat and was not moving towards Keith.

Keith went into the house to put his shoes on and he went back out to follow the guy for a bit to see where he was heading in spite of my pleading for him to stay inside and just let me call the police.

Keith stood out there while I called 911 and explained that I didn't think it was an emergecy so she gave me the number for non-emergencies and I phoned that number.

I gave that woman as much information as I could recall and I guess she was contacting the police as I was talking as they were here so fast. They told me they had already checked the area and didn't see the guy.

One of the officers phoned me about 45 minutes later and said they were still patroling and had not seen the guy. They said the neighbors around here were pretty good about phoning about weird stuff. I said I thought it warranted a phone call and he said "Definitely. Especially for something this weird." They asked me to phone 911 if I saw him again.

Of course I did do a property search and there is no one by the name of Emanuel that lives around here. I am hoping this nut just chose this neighborhood to work his scam and that he doesn't live around here. Also hoping he will not have any recall of the events. I don't like thinking about the alternative.

I think it would have been handled better if I just stayed in the house! The guy looked so weird though and he was headed to my neighbor's house and I was worried that Carol might have been home alone. I would have felt horrible if I something bad had happened to her and I knew there was something weird going on and just ignored the situation.

Her husband Bob did come over today to talk to me. I was going to go over to talk to them later (like when I was out of my pajamas!). Bob told me that Carol had been home alone but she didn't answer the door. She heard the ruckus and Bob got home shortly after the whole thing and saw all of the police.

I just told him what had happened and gave him a description of the guy. He's lived here forever and he knows everyone and he said there isn't anyone named Emanuel around here. Big surprise.

I don't know what it is about this house. I have had to phone the police numerous times since I moved here. First it was the stalker situation that I had to deal with for about a year and a half off and on. The police were here a lot for that deal.

Then I had a fake post office guy trying to get me to open the door one day. I figured out he wasn't from the post office because it was Columbus Day and the post office doesn't deliver mail that day. It's a government holiday and I never even used to be aware of it until I worked at the health department because we always had that day off. It seemed off to me because he didn't leave anything at the door. Plus there wasn't a post office vehicle around and they don't deliver on foot here.

I didn't phone the police that time; I phoned the post office and said "Is there any reason someone from the post office would be coming to my door on Columbus Day?" She said no and reported the incident to the federal office. A month later two detectives were at my door flashing their badges at me and asking about the incident. They told me to call them if the guy came back but to phone 911 first.

I'm not a suspicious person. I am just extremely aware of my environment and very detail oriented and always have been. I broke up a county wide dog-napping operation when I was about 13. LOL, I am not going to tell that story because Fred will complain again.

I always wanted to be an FBI agent when I was a kid and I think I would have been good at it except for the gun part. I kind of miss hunting down people for the health department. Most of them didn't want to be found and it was kind of fun catching them when they slipped up and I would get a lead on a case.

But, hell, I hadn't been allowed to work on those cases in a long time. When our useless tit of a boss was hired she took all of those cases away from Nadine and I. She liked to take those cases because they were an excuse for her to leave the office and not come back. She never solves any of the cases and Nadine and I think she was just out shopping or going to the movies or sitting on her ass at home.

Nadine and I successfully closed about 90% of our cases which is a pretty good rate considering the minimal information we would get. We hunted down people at their homes, their jobs, their hang-outs and street corners. One time the only lead we had was that the person we were looking for was on kidney dialysis so we finally got that one at the hospital. It wasn't nice but it had to be done.

One of my friends from work phoned me today and just about the first thing she said was "I hate her!" meaning our boss. Then she said "I am only going to tell this to you but Sue (our boss's boss) apologized to Nadine and I after you resigned and said 'I am so, so sorry I stuck you guys with that woman.'" Not as sorry as we are!

Re: Had a strange and very creepy incident at home this evening.

Off that rant and onto another.

I have to say the first thing Keith said when that whole incident with that crazy guy was over was "OMG. Now he knows what our dogs look like!"

Keith is head over heels in love with Hershey. He babies the hell out of that dog. What a switch for someone that never even liked dogs. I love my Squidoo/Reecey more every day but she actually has some sense to her. Hershey is a huge pain in the patoosh.

We needed a new solar cover anyways. I guess they fall apart after a few years. The new one is in the garage. Haven't put it on the pool yet because the summer here has sucked.

Keith is bugging the hell out of me to find a new house. He doesn't want to leave his good job to move to North Carolina now. He wants a bigger house right on the water here.

I've spent countless hours searching for properties to purchase. I found a lovely house right on the river with it's own boat launch but he said that one was too small. I found a bigger one but I didn't like the interior of it that much.

That's generally the problem; I don't like most of the houses. One house was on a lovely river lot but everything in that house was PINK. Pink walls, pink carpets, pink bathroom fixtures, pink kitchen counters. I could deal with just paint but that place needed a total remodel. Some of the houses are not as horrible as that one but they don't have floor plans that I like.

I found a foreclosure today that might have some promise. I realized exactly where that house was as I have been driving past it and wondering what it looked like inside. It's a big house with huge room sizes. It has an in-ground pool with a pool house and the landscaping is quite lovely so I think the owners were taking good care of the place. It's across the road from the river but there isn't anything built on the river side except for a deck that belongs to the house along with a jet ski ramp thingy.

They didn't show the interior of the house but for the price we would be able to restore the entire thing if it's hideous as long as the bones of the house are good.

Also found a huge Victorian with 7 bedrooms and bathrooms that has been used as a bed and breakfast. I would be a lovely host for a bed and breakfast. After one week I would want to say "I'm sleeping in. Get your own damn breakfast and get the hell out of my house."

There is also a small motel for sale. We could buy that and I could turn it into my own version of The Bates Motel. I wouldn't stab anyone in the shower. I would just walk around in my pajamas scaring people all day and night.

Re: Had a strange and very creepy incident at home this evening.

We have to do some more looking but I think I found something we could both agree on. It's a parcel of property on the other side of the river with great river views. It's close to the boardwalk, the bike paths and it's even a bit closer to my favorite hospital emergency room.

That property is for sale for a song. We could purchase that property and do the up-grades to this house that I think need to be done to entice buyers for this house.

I want to put wood flooring in the family room, remodel one bathroom, have the kitchen cupboards painted white, change out the hardware (already purchased that), put granite or marble on the kitchen island and replace the appliances with stainless steel. And I need to repaint every room with the exception of the dining and living rooms which I recently repainted. A lot of work and a bit of money but I think it would be worth it plus we would get to enjoy the up-grades until the house sold.

So I think the 3 year plan is to buy that property, get this house ready for sale and save a lot of money to build the new house.

Building is really the only way to get exactly what you want. I know what kind of floor plan that would work best for us and it would be great to customize a house to my taste. I would build a two story with a first level porch and a porch on the 2nd level as well to get better views of the river.

Keith isn't wild about the idea of building another house but I am a lot smarter than I was when we built the first house. Plus I have tons of time to choose finishes and stay on the contractors backs. That is a full time job in itself.
