Thunder road question
What does Bruce mean by" trade in these wings on some wheels"?
Kind regards

Re: Thunder road question
Welcome!
Good question! I've had a think, and I don't know. It's clear that the wheels/car are the means of escape from small town life, but I can't work out what wings they (or she, or he) had in the first place.
I'm a Brit, so I don't know, but I'm just wondering if "wings" were a significant symbol in mid-70s NJ - a brand of trainers, or something off a TV ad?
All the best,
Martin

Re: Thunder road question
cheers for the answer, I also was thinking the wings were a symbol for their current life and fantasy and trading the them for wheels meant turning them into a reality, hence "once last chance to make it real"
It's some some serious poetry from the Boss!

That's always been my take on it too. Bit like that line in the TOL album about trading in a wedding ring for good hard cash.

That's what I've always thought too. The only escape he had was dreaming until he got a car.

Martin, this made me think Bruce was trading Paul McCartney's band for the Detroit Wheels.
