My head hurts. In what universe is crossing a foreign border without permission and staying there not considered a crime?! Do you read what you write, or is it just your Bush = Hitler, Republicans = Nazis reflex acting up.

I'm about as pro-immigration as they come. Married a foreigner and helped her immigrate, have employed Mexican immigrants, an immediate family member has devoted the past 15 years of their life working at a large immigrant services organization. I've helped clients put together foreign investment deals that have resulted in jobs being outsourced from N.America to the developing world. I've often quipped that the country would be better off if it traded 30 citizens who appear on the People of Wal-Mart site for 30 average people from China or Mexico. The progressive approach by Canada and the U.S. towards immigration the past 100 years is a positive that set it apart from Europe, Australia and the rest of the world.

But illegals? Get them out, get them out now. There are more than enough people going through the proper legal channels to take their place. If it's simple a better economic life they want, they can come to Canada, where until recently they could live and work without a visa. But if it's a better economic life + warm sunshine, we can't help them.

The food department of Harrod's represents a better life as well, and I'm welcome to it if I show up between 10am and 6pm with my wallet. Not welcome if I try to squat in its aisles all night and stick my fingers into the jars of mustard whenever I feel like it.

I was obviously referring to the misperception that illegal immigrants from Mexico commit a lot of violent crimes in the US!

ok, here's one for you Di. there was a protest in Charlotte yesterday. among the many things they were upset about was a provision in a NC law that deports people AFTER THEY'VE COMMITED A CRIME!! that's the mentality of these people. they want goodies without personal accountability

I'm not saying Mexicans are terrorists. I'm just if you have to profile, you profile the people who fit the description of whatever act you are trying to stop. Illegals have WAY to many rights. They actually qualify for all sorts of government help which is, of course, funded by tax payers. That's wrong. Kids can go to school and that's even more tax payer money. Their families lived all doubled up so the kids qualify for free lunch, free clothes, free supplies. And ya know who is paying for that? Me and you. We work our asses off and could use a little help ourselves. I'm all for making a better life for yourself, but do it legally.

Amen PRJ!! This is what I've been saying for years and I always had the bleeding heart liberals call me racist or bigoted because of this. We can no longer accept, nor tolerate the abuse upon the tax payers (as you stated..you, I and other taxpaying citizens) for the free ride they not only get, but have come to expect from the government when entering here illegally.

I just love all the demonstrations they are holding over this Arizona law, all over the country. It's pretty simple, be here legally, or be here illegally and face the consequences.

If you or I break the law, we have consequences, do we not? The rule, "breaking the law" should apply to everyone.

Perhaps Arizona is the first state to enact a law as this, after seeing the financial drain it's causing to their state budget crisis. The department of health and human services in my state takes the 2ND largest chunk of revenue from it's budget and I don't know of any state that isn't faced with a severe budget deficit, including Colorado. I think it took awhile, perhaps too long for states (especially the border states) to come to the true realization what the illegal immigrants are truly costing the state budget.

Maybe the severe budget crisis for many states has caused the governments to open their eyes to a big part of the problem. Not all of the problem/s, but most certainly a huge percentage.

I haven't read the Arizona law, how much are the companies that hire the illegal aliens going to be fined for employing them?
