Re: NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
One BBC reporter suggested he won it for "not being George Bush".

Re: NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
I really like Obama, but this is bizarre. Proof that the Nobel committee is out to lunch, how they can point to any tangible reason as to how Obama has earned this. Nobel needs to stick to physics and literature and the like.

Re: NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
If they were giving him the Nobel Peace Prize for being the first black President, shouldn't they give it to the American voters?

Re: NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
My same thoughts LS..this being bizarre. It is TOTALLY bizarre. When I first heard this on the news, I thought 'what'? Then I thought, 'why'? What has he done to win the Nobel Peace Prize?

You know Ian, if people didn't take this (The Nobel Peace Prize) so seriously, your comment would almost be funny. No too many (Americans) are finding this funny at all. People can joke all they want over this, but I can tell you that most here are not finding this amusing in the least, in fact...there's an outcry of both sides of the fence saying.."WTF?!" I imagine our current administration in the Oval Office is the butt of jokes in other countries.
I wasn't lashing out at you sweetie, just reporting from the United States and what's been on the news here.

Re: NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
i don t see it that way. He has made big efforts to keep peace in many regions... and during his 3 more years they think he will keep on doing that.
They awarded him the price as a sort of urge to keep up this work.
and that is just what our newspaper wrote..
but, even in the comittee there are frowns over this one...

I think you imagine wrong Steph, it was the previous administration that was the butt of jokes in other countries. The BBC joke was against Bush, not Obama. I think Obama could stand for election in most countries of the world right now and win by a landslide.
To have a bright, articulate President that is widely respected around the world is a good thing, not a sign of weakness.
Obviously the award is premature as the proof of the pudding is in the eating, but the reality is that the world seems a far safer with Obama in the Oval Office, or is at least perceived to be by the world at large. I think he got the prize now to further encourage him to deliver what he has started.
