The History

Some of us have been here for more than a while, and I think there are some great stories behind the site and it's members, starting way back.

Let's delve into our past and start at our beginning - the history as you know it.

Well ...

quote:

We live in an insane asylum. A barbaric, merciless cesspool. And in this purgatory filled with desease and ugliness and violence and hatred and injustice and greed and lies and pain and frustration and confusion there are brief, fleeting moments of peace and love and truth and beauty. They are rare. They are years and miles apart. But they are so meaningful that they make life worth living. Those moments give you strength to face the insanity with your balance intact and your focused and you endure and tolerate and survive.

And if you're lucky, real lucky, you can tap that strength and hold on to it long enough to, in your own small way, try to make it all a little bit better. Just a little bit more civil and just. To serve. And you don't do it for anybody else, because nobody is going to thank you or reward you or even notice. Don't kid yourself. You do it for you. For your own soul.

Because in this world that's all the salvation you're ever gonna get.

Little Steven 1999

In the 80th Little Steven toured a lot here in Old Europe ... with his band. First it was him, I've given attention. And so I've followed him. The concerts spread those vibrations ... mentioned above. You were able to imbibe, if you listened carefully with an open mind and an open heart.

A few years later I became familiar with the other guy ... the Boss. Four years ago as I entered the Old Message Board - the Sony Board - I became familiar with a huge crowd gathered in the spirit of one guy - Bruce Springsteen. A crowd ... lively, controversy, humorous, inspiring. And I've learned a lot about his poetry and music and the vibrations of Joy, Love, Peace, Understanding and Beauty, which are spread in each and every concert, I was glad to enjoy.

And in this remembrance I will stay.

Re: The History

my brother sent me an addy for a website about the boss. he and i have been long time fans. i had never even heard of a message board, but it didn't take long to be chatting away with other fans about the tour.

then...i discovered the flood...and became <gasp> a floodite!!

i fell in with the nicest, wackiest bunch of people ever. people from all across the world. i have received boots, posters, books, candy, potato chips, bracelets, and even football scarves from my friends on the internet.

i have met some of them to share concerts or just beers. some of them have come and visited me and stayed in my home.

when we lost sony and doubler found us a new home, i was tickled pink. when that place went kerplunk, doubler jumped on it again and got us here.

some people think it is very strange, but these cyber brucebuds are very important to me. i care about their hurts and their joys. i feel as though i know each and every one of them...

welcome to the swamps of jersey....hope you like it here!!

Re: The History

I will always miss the sony board. I joined three years ago, and wendy0015 was the first person I spoke with in the flood. I had stuck with sony politics, for the most part, until I ventured into other areas. Once I entered the flood, I never left the site again, even through it's many formations, and I've enjoyed each one for the simple fact that the people are what make it, and those people find it, seek it out, and remain in some capacity.

I've found considerable contentment, especially when I lived way way out in the country, in having a place to chat and argue. It saved my family from having to provide a debate platform. I'm sure they would thank bs.net in whatever form it came, just for that alone.

I appreciate the group of people I've come to know. I wouldn't trade a single one of you, though I reserve the right to ban you if you get out of line. I might be the only person who thought that was funny, just now.

the trick, loosely in the words of the boss, is to remember your idealism long after your innocence is gone. I think that's what this place is... where idealists linger. Whether you hide under a veil of cynicism or an I'm-too-cool-for-that, we all know the truth.

happy chatting.

I had no idea! Awww. I'm surprised I didn't scare you off! I should have known that nothing scares you!

I first interacted with ramona67 on the old Sony board, then 24thantherest, I believe, and we both shared a love of Bruce's music and looks. I later was banned, then back on, and it was then that I was attracted to the Flood. Pounder, fredmc, 1985, jillianre, Phish, Lordstanley, beachheidi, Hercules, Paul Bethell, Barefoot Girl, of course my little Downbound Joe, and the one person that turned out to be one of the very best friends I have had in my life, Bruceron (now Dominican Jane). I loved the old site, I think it was the constant injection of new blood, but it might have been the idea that we were all tied together with our love for Springsteen. What a great artist and musician to have provided the springboard for so many relationships. It's not only the music that I thank Bruce for every day-it's the people that I have met through his music that keeps me coming back.

Re: The History

Great thread, and Hi Lara!

Various constraints mean that I hardly ever have time to visit threads outside Mary's Place these days, but I miss the folks at the Flood and elsewhere, just so you know.

A taste of the old days can be found here http://web.archive.org/web/20020912023113/discussions.brucespringsteen.net

I think that I signed up at bs.net on the first anniversary of 9/11, although I may not have posted on that day. I had been reading posts for a while, especially on the European tour dates thread. Initially I just wanted to get news on ticket sales but I became interested in other news and in the people who were posting. I was in awe of folks who had hundreds or thousands of posts to their name and wondered how they would react to me joining in. I was a total message board newbie.

As aneee has posted elsewhere (next time, read the instructions properly, pet), our quest for tickets for the 2002 Wembley show evolved into the first ever gathering under the title of Mary's Place, and the rest is history

Re: The History

I came across the sony site purely by accident after the Old Trafford gig. I was just looking for reviews of the concert.

To be honest, I was gobsmacked by what I found, just wish I'd have found it sooner in life!! All those years of bugging people about Bruce who really weren't that interested! I hung around the concert reviews for a while, then drifted to the Songs section. Then one day I drifted into the Flood, was captivated by all Pounder's stuff, 1985 suggested I stick around in the Flood, and well the old site and new site have been a great companion ever since.

All I can say is, my incredible talent for recognising people just by the back of their head is what brought me here! (with a little help from a certain Spanish crooner) A bizzare twist of fate, thanks to a very tall man!!!!
