I agree, Jukebox Grad.

Was the crowd angry because there was no Incident?

Re: Hairy Potter...

The service was very moving and a fitting tribute to Stephen. I have to say that the vicar made it as much of a memorial service as he could, rather than concentrating on the religious aspects. He had spoken to the family and gave a good account of Stephen's life, even mentioning his love for Bruce. Then one of his Dutch friends, Tom, read a beautiful message from Heidi and paid his own tribute too.

After the service, I hung back a little, because I had not yet met any of the family, but I had met Stephen and Heidi's Dutch friends who were there. But I did notice that one of Stephen's sisters was looking at the flowers so I introduced myself as someone who had never actually met Stephen but who knew him, Heidi, Diane (whose flowers she was looking at) and many other people who had known Stephen because of this site. She was very pleased that I had gone to pay my respects, and that I was able to represent so many people. She introduced me to her parents and they were equally warm and grateful for everyone's kind thoughts.

Tom told me a great story later that day. Stephen was in the snooker hall that he inhabited in Holland one day, when a visiting US rock band walked in. They were playing a gig in town that night and they asked if they could take some photos of themselves in the hall. Stephen said yes, but after a while he had to ask them to leave because they started to fool around and he did not want any of the snooker tables to be damaged. And the name of the band? Pearl Jam!

Oh man...I am so, so sorry to read this news. I cannot believe this, I am stunned over Stephen's passing. Bless him and his dear family and friends. My deepest sympathy goes out to all his loved ones.

I am shocked and saddened to know that such a vibrant, funny, witty (very witty!) and talented young man as Stephen was, is now gone. Terrible news, just terrible.

Dear Punch, I am so very sorry. I'm not sure if I'm replying to your first post underneath the news of Stephen but, I wanted to tell you I'm so terribly sorry. I hadn't known that he had been quite ill. God Bless You Punch.

Thanks for the write up, Martin!

When he was young he got a job working for 'some guy' named Ned... Ned Zepplin! LOL!

Hi, Kit... Sad indeed, isn't it. I'm okay. Some days suck badly, like today, but life goes on with or without us, doesn't it?

Re: Hairy Potter...

Firstly, thank you Heidi for directing me to this memorial thread for Stephen.

I met Stephen on three occasions. Firstly in Rotterdam for Springsteen's gig there in 2003; Secondly in Brighton and thirdly when he visited my house for dinner.

He was excellent company. Witty and intelligent. I liked him.

I left message boards and so on way back in 2005 for the sake of my own sanity (!) so I had absolutely no idea that Stephen had met a new partner via one of these sites. I was deeply touched to read the posts Heidi made about their time together.

Heidi, I do not know who you are and I want you to know that you are not the Heidi I was referring to on the "Paul Bethell Is Back" thread ! That person was the one who used to call herself "Vabeach Heidi". Just to clear that up.

Today I went out for a walk and put my headphones on and listened to "If I Should Fall Behind" without knowing that you played it at Stephen's funeral. A lovely coincidence I think.

I also want you to know that this is me, for real, and the other posts were definately not me ! I will not be posting any more after this so feel free to delete my account but I felt I had to put a few things straight firstly regarding the nonsense I read that I had supposedly split from my wife (nothing could be further from the truth) and secondly, obviously, upon hearing of Stephen's death I felt compelled to leave a tribute.

I would never have seen or been in contact with Stephen again. However, I always remembered him fondly ever now and again and always will. I shed a few quiet tears for him today.

With best wishes.
