Ah, but is David Cameron a communist?

He has just announced a policy that will remove child benefit tax breaks from wealthy middle class parents in order to subsidise benefits for the poor. And the Labour Party criticised it!

The whole world has turned upside down.

Rightly so! That tax break is not needed for salaries £40K and above. It should go to the poor....I still like Cameron and would have voted for him if given the opportunity. Yes, I would have voted conservative to have him even though I am a Lib Dem emoticon

But seriously, Ramona, it all depends on who you talk to. The people I talk to in the US every day like Obama and think he is doing the hard work that Republicans refuse to do. We're fed up with the party of "No" and will vote against Republicans in the next election hoping to keep Obama and the Dems working to put our country's economy back together again after the mass spending-debacle that was the Bush Administration.

I just sooo want to know where all these supposedly fiscal conservative people were when Bush was throwing billions and billions of dollars away on two wars. They should have been outraged then, if spending was what they really cared about. He also wasted money cutting taxes because it didn't do anything to improve our economy. It just won him more votes. People should be insulted by politicians who give them trinkets just to get their vote so they can squander billions of dollars on making themselves and their business cronies rich.

But they're not. They're upset by someone who is trying to get this country to face the reality of its inevitable downward spiral unless citizens get off their butts, get educated, get better jobs, pay down their debt, and live within their means. Nobody wants to hear the truth. They want to just barely graduate from high school and make $100K per year and never lose their job and never have to re-train as the world changes. I want to scream at these people, "Uncle Sam ain't your sugar-daddy!"

Well said, Carrie. I agree with you 100% emoticon

Thanks, Ramona. I was afraid I was too Crazy Carrie this morning. But I like, "Uncle Sam ain't your sugar daddy." I think I'll put it on a big sign and aim it at some tea party people.

Ironically, they think people like me who want there to be a social service safety net for people in need are the ones who want Uncle Sam to be a sugar daddy. But the difference is who do you want to be helped? I don't feel gypped out of my money when a poor person gets food stamps or a break on their rent. I feel that's money well-spent, and I'm glad I could help out. Mostly, I'm just glad I'm not that person in need right now. I really think there is something wrong with one's understanding of reality when he looks at a person in need and doesn't think, There but for the grace of God, go I.

I agree that there should be money made available for the poor, (especially the homeless, disabled and mentally ill) and there should also be a national healthcare programme for everyone in the country, pre-existing condition or not. The healthcare system in the US is an absolute mess, and what the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies are getting away with is just criminal in my opinion.

These issues are really putting me off from moving back to the US in the future. That and not enough paid vacations! I used to believe that the USA was the best country in the world to live in, but I don't feel that way any more, sadly. We have a better way of life here in the UK, even without emoticon . I do hope things improve, as I love my native country, and it's people. I hope Obama proves to be the Leader that we believe him to be, and that democracy actually works. emoticon

LOL! Thanks but the politicians and lobbyists would no doubt try to turn Congress Carrie into Corrupt Crazy Congress Carrie and I'd probably lose my mind for good trying to work against them.

We used to have a Senator from Illinois named Paul Simon (no relation to the singer) who really was, by all accounts, uncorrupted. He was from southern Illinois (rural farm and coal mining country) and he always wore a bow tie. He was a Democrat, but he got along well with Republicans. He served in state and federal politics for decades and then he retired from that and started a school for public policy at the public university in his area in southern Illinois. He passed away a few years ago and everyone said he was a true statesman - someone who served the public more than a party. I wish more people like him got into public office and were able to stay there long enough to do some good.

That's what I love. "A true statesman" someone who served the public more than a party.

I don't like politics. I admire public service with a little of that human touch.
