As a new manager I try to be firm but fair and listen to both sides. I have had some challenges in the past year and 3 people have left me (I'm getting quite a reputation) but it was because I expect results and they were used to doing whatever they felt like. I am not confrontational and would never call anyone names (I might be thinking it inside) but my boss says "put on your big girl panties and do your job." A manager can do that without being an ogre. Just my 2 cents.

That usually comes from their own insecurity.
I work for a guy that's such an asshole! :mn1:
Me! emoticon

After 35+ years of battling stupidity in the work place, being feared rather than rewarded for successes, putting up with the kind of harrassment Rick and Sherry now face, I gathered the cajones to work for myself.
Best move I ever made.

No time to get cawt up.. but I HAD to share~

I'm still at work last night at 7:45pm
Sandy cawls (usually @ 8)
She asks me if I'm watching the Golden Globes.
I say no, I'm at work.
We tawk for about 10 minutes or so and hang up.

About 20 minutes later she cawls back ~

"MOM!!! Bruce just won a Golden Globe for "The Wrestler!!"

She holds the phone to the TV so I can listen to a bit of his acceptance speech.
"I had to cawl you Mom so you would know!"

"Well, thank you sweetheart, I appreciate that.
Was Patti with him?
She has red hair."

"Yes, she was sitting right next to him.
AND I KNOW WHAT SHE LOOKS LIKE, MOM!!!"

"But she wasn't in Atlanta."

"I STILL know what she looks like, Mom, GEEZ!"

emoticon Ya know, even if she is being raised by 2 a-holes in Mahwah, I'm still puttting my mark on that kid from 450 miles away. emoticon

Wow.

As a person who usually uses someone else's words for expression, it's tough for me to find my own sometime...

Rais, I'm with LG on this. I believe this will be a great thing for you. I'm proud of you. You say you composed yourself and offered your resignation. Composed! Beautiful! This wasn't done on impulse--you were grounded and centered and you did what you knew--KNOW is right. Sure it'll take some effort during tough times to do this. But the right thing is frequently hard. Composed---like beautiful music... Congrats! May this transition bring growth and joy and peace to you!

Hooray for our guy Bruce! And for Mickey! I'm eyeing the Oscars for this duo.

Hooray for our newest thespian! Glad the show went well, Dar! I'm excited about seeing pictures! I saw Our Town on Broadway in 2002 (?) with Paul Newman as the Stage Manager. Beautiful! It's an insightful show. A classic!

Leo and I had a great ride yesterday. Kelly and I watched a few episodes of Weeds (strange but funny show). I did get the yard art back out and filled up the feeders. Lots of activity.

I'm off to a big week at school. It's homecoming. Today's spirit day is PJ Day. Hooray! I'm goin' for it. Flannel PJs, Winnie the Pooh robe and comfy house shoes. Let's see if they respect me t'day--LOL!

Y'all have a great day and a super week!

Nice to see all the support for Rais.

Tree - please know that when I say something negative about managers, I'm not talking about you.

I liked the stories about Sandy, and Jo's son.

Need PA for asthma problems and a horrendous headache today.
