During the early evening PG and I had he privilege to meet RocknRoll Sue, Cat and John. And a bit of Wally, Sue´s boss, who tried to tell her were best to change Pound in Euro. In London! Well, Wally, a bit late...and you know what? Sue needs a raise, Wally! Time passed too fast, while talking to these three wonderful English (and German) speaking people. I didn´t really need a Springsteen concert after that great evening, but hey, we were in Hamburg, we had tickets, so we went. And the show became the icing on the perfect day. It was an amazing show. "We are bringing them all out!" Bruce said. They did. Something in the Night, Held up, Hungry Heart, Sherry Darling, Incident, Rosie.... Nothing left for me what I can wish for now. You know, Clarence is dressed all in black during this tour´s concerts. You can´t see him when he is on the screens. Black hat, black face, black clothes. Only when he smiles (and he did a lot last night) you can see a white new moon. Just like the guys on stage could have seen my big grin during the show. It was the biggest grin I had since well, like, a few hours before, when PG and I were alone in our hotel room... but that´s another story...nondisclosed_email@example.com (Promissed Boy)Sun, 22 Jun 2008 19:04:43 +0000 Re: Hamburg 06 / 21 / 08 Setlistwatch and Concert Reviewshttps://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136909,from=rss#post136909https://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136909,from=rss#post136909An Incident with Rosie or “Let’s get in touch with the paper collector” (x = by request) Concert started at 7.45 and ended at 10.28 local time When Bruce and the band got on stage with only 15 min late – never been so early, Bruce – he said in German: “Hallo Hamburg, hallo Deutschland. Deutschland – Portugal Drei zu Zwei – unglaublich” (unbelievable). Perhaps he has seen the football fans in the streets, and there is the opener. 1. Out in the Street From the beginning there are lots of smiles and broad grinnings, the man has fun today, the band moves directly into 2. Radio Nowhere Very powerful of course. Very fast, very loud. The audience on their feet, and from where I stand (25 m away from the stage on the ground) I have problems to see more than held-up arms. At the end of the song he goes to the back of the stage and collects a harmonica for 3. Promised Land Again straight into 4. Prove it all night To my recollection a fairly long version with a funny guitar duel at the end, involving Bruce and Steve 5. Spirit in the night This is the start of the special part. Bruce moves to the front row and when he tells about “wild Billy was a crazy cat” he sits down on the edge of the stage next to a small boy, maybe 8 Years old, takes off the boy’s cap, and shakes “off the dust of his coonskin-cap”. The boy, however, sways his finger to indivcate that this is his cap and so Bruce puts it back on the boy’s head, then he shows him that they are on camera, on a huge vertical screen, good to show one man walking in particular. But now the boy sees himself and is stunned. Bruce moves on, across the stage, and each time he steps to the edge, arms grab him, girls and men wrap their arms around his legs. One time he lies down, his head to the stage, spreads his legs and we can see a young man’s head appear between Bruce’s thighs. Breathtaking! This is also when he collects the many paper-pieces with the requests. 6. Something In The Night x I never had that one live before. And who would have had the next? The sign to Held up.. comes with the order. “Go Stevie! Sing, Stevie, sing!” Bruce says that this one was as closest as they had ever got to punkrock. 7. HELD UP WITHOUT A GUN x Well, it is fast. And good. But short. Next is a happy-birthday-sign for Nils. At least the part of the audience on the floor sings “Happy Birthday”. And then it’s kind of “Back to normal” with the next six songs. 8. Atlantic City Rather quiet after the pounding drums at the beginning. Bruce sings very intensely and a little hoarse. 9. Gypsy Biker very moving 10. Because the night Most prominent for Nils’s guitar solo, extended version, including a dance with the guitar that would make every dancing devil jealous. The loudest cheers so far. Then no break into 11. She's the one As good as always (6/8) 12. Living in the future The usual introduction 13. Mary's Place The usual introduction know from the Rising tour. We are ready. And you won’t believe it. There is the revival of the kneeslide! 14. I'll Work for your love x Introduced by a sign that says “newly weds”. And Bruce adds that he knows how very very true the words of the songtitle are. 15. Sherry Darlin' (not a premiere) x Unexpected, but welcome. Lots of dancing to this one, well who could resist? And one more chance for the Big Man to show his expertise on the sax. 16. HUNGRY HEART x He had taken the sign from a girl, that was shown on the screens quite often, having the number 1 from the pitline written on her wrist. He said that he had seen her quite often during the tour and asked for her name – Anna. Bruce didn’t show the sign this time, and he said that this song was so old the band had forgotten, but he would play it for her. Then he started just on the guitar, gave us the first line, and the audience sang the rest of the first verse. Then the band joined in, on Bruce’s command on the second verse. 17. Incident on 57th street x I know how many fans long to hear that one live, hi there, nynick! This was a full band version, and the chorus echoed through the arena – good night, it’s alright, Jane. The rest of the main set was business as usual – no offence, it was classic, breathtaking and very hard and loud. 18. The Rising 19. Last to Die 20. Long Walk Home 21. Badlands 22. Seven nights to rock Many will have known this from the Rising tour, when he played it also in Hamburg. Slight textchanges, when he one time referred to “Anna” again. 23. Rosalita x Yes, I, too, had never heard “Rosie” live before, but to me this seemed rather uninspired, as if they had to work through it. But perhaps it’s just me and I’m getting a little too demanding. The crowd loved it, of course. 24. Born to run 25. Dancing in the dark 26. American land The last four encores where played in one straight row, so that some people around us didn’t think it was over after AL, there was a long, long applause, hoping to get them back. At least Bruce said that they would be seeing us. He just didn’t say when. Any time, Bruce. In all these acts around the requests you simply forgot “Girls in their summer clothes” in the shortest night of the year. Well summer’s here, and it was time to race back to our place. Having arrived some twelve hours ago and after a good sleep I am still on a high about this unusual (?, well, at least to me with respect to the requests) concert. I hope it was not the last dance. And I can tell you, the girls were delighted. nondisclosed_email@example.com (oHal)Sun, 22 Jun 2008 15:17:50 +0000 Re: Hamburg 06 / 21 / 08 Setlistwatch and Concert Reviewshttps://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136889,from=rss#post136889https://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136889,from=rss#post136889 Ah,they got Incident.I knew i should be following him around.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Eden Gypsy)Sun, 22 Jun 2008 09:23:04 +0000 Re: Hamburg 06 / 21 / 08 Setlistwatch and Concert Reviewshttps://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136884,from=rss#post136884https://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136884,from=rss#post136884sorry you did not get your song, once again, Hal... seems a setlist does not mean much anymore... signs are more the thing~ glad to see it sounds a though you had a good time nonetheless!!  :rckon: nondisclosed_email@example.com (nicu99)Sun, 22 Jun 2008 03:30:59 +0000 Re: Hamburg 06 / 21 / 08 Setlistwatch and Concert Reviewshttps://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136882,from=rss#post136882https://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136882,from=rss#post136882Pics from the show: http://www.ndr2.de/pages_special_lib/0,3322,SPM7462,00.html?aktion=aktion1326&a_id=1326&cam=1&fparam=264716&viewport=2nondisclosed_email@example.com (oHal)Sun, 22 Jun 2008 02:31:23 +0000 Re: Hamburg 06 / 21 / 08 Setlistwatch and Concert Reviewshttps://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136879,from=rss#post136879https://btrampsandtrampettesrefugepart2.runboard.com/p136879,from=rss#post136879HERE'S HAMBURG Concert started at 7.45 and ended at 10.28 local time 1. American land   no independence day for me, but mission completed, three girls brucified in their first Springsteen concert. "Yes", my daughter Tina-Marie said, "now I understand. It was so cool." Lots of songs (marked [x] by request) Bruce went out and collected paper signs. placed them on Max's podium and by and then he took one of them, showed them to the audience and played the song. I wonder what the original setlist looked like. Bruce and the band were in best shape, lots of fun esp. between him and Steve, a "Happy Birthday" song from the audience for Nils and a gigantic guitar solo during "Because the Night".
