Board games.

Who likes them and what is your favorite one?

My niece, Jessie loves them. Every time they come to stay over here we have to play one towards the end of the party.

We had a rather large party this evening. A bit larger than I was expecting; Jessie invited a lot more people over than I had originally thought were coming. The more the merrier to me. I was just worried about not having enough food but I made a ton of cheeseburgers on the grill to go with the other stuff and no one went hungry.

We all gathered in the dining room towards the end to play Trivial Pursuit. I haven't played that in years! I remember when it was really popular and there were numerous variations of it released (those guys that developed it must be really rich). I had most of the variations at one time but like most of my stuff I don't remember what I did with them. Jessie bought this set from a garage sale.

I forgot how much fun that game is to play. We had too many people so we had to divide into teams. That makes it even more fun. It really amazes me how much completely useless information that our brains store. My favorite question of the night was "What is a capon?" Jessie was so smug when she delivered the question because she was certain that we wouldn't know the answer. She was so pissed when I said that it was a castrated rooster. She said "Whatever!! Take a pie. How in the hell did you know that?!" I don't know how I knew that but I do know that it is taking up space in my brain that could be utilized in a more practical manner. Like remembering directions to some place.

The last time they were over with their board games we played "The Game of Life". I still don't like that game too much but we had fun with it that night. Keith and I had just attended a Bon Jovi concert just prior to that party. Jessie's bf records everything and he is still trying to blackmail me with the videos of me saying "You suck, Bon Jovi!!" and my rendition of "Living on a Prayer".

I like Monopoly because it is so easy to cheat in that game, especially if you are the banker. It almost begs for you to cheat. I don't like messing with all of the little houses and hotels though and to my knowledge I have never played a game of Monopoly that actually finished. Usually someone would get pissed and dump the board over with all of it's itty, bitty pieces and that was the end of things. It hurts to step barefoot the next morning on the houses, hotels and other game pieces.

One of my old bf's taught me how to play Backgammon. We used to sit Indian style on the bed and play that game for hours and hours. I still really love that game but it never felt right for me to play it with anyone else after him.

All of my over-night guests are fast asleep. I should be more fatigued than they are but here I am. I don't think that I even have an 'off switch'.

Fun, fun night. The pool was fully enjoyed and finally used as it should be. My Peapod is such a little water bug; she was in there for about 7 hours. Frankie had a blast and was in there as long as Peapod was. He was truly entertaining for everyone. Frankie just kept retrieving fun noodles, ball, squirt guns and diving rings. Over and over again. :tread:

Keith phoned from Roklahoma around midnight. It was still very loud there and he couldn't hear well. I had a different person answer the phone each time and Keith kept hanging up because he thought that he had the wrong number.

Uno's a good one...and easy to cheat at too!!

Jill, I LOVE Uno.

Di...Trivial Pursuit is still my favourite, but we really like Scene It...it's a dvd game where you answer trivia on tv, movies, songs, etc. Fab!

Glad you had fun!

I concur. Trivial Pursuit is the cream of the crop of board games!

My brother and sister and I once had a 3 month game of Monopoly going. We would count up our money, write it down (in case someone tried to cheat!), write down houses and hotels, and store the board intact until the next session of play. We ended up abandoning the game in the end because we thought "3 months and no winner? Sheesh!"

My newest favorite board game is Catchphrase. That beeping when the time is getting low really whips people into a frenzy!

I also dig on movie trivia and this music trivia game called Riff. I took on my cousins by myself in that and beat the hell out of them. I yelled at them when they had to guess the name of the lead singer of Pearl Jam!!

I like the game Cranium. It sucks to have to do the acting bits though.

We never go on holiday without a pack of Uno cards. Kids could play it forever!

The very first board game I ever played was Candyland. Used to love it! My faves were always Monopoly, Yatzee, Trouble (called Frustration in th UK) and Clue (called Cluedo in th UK). I used to stay the night at my friend Debbie's place across the street, and we used to play monopoly till the crack of dawn along with her sisters. We also loved playing backgammon, but I have forgotten how to play now. We also loved card games (Rummy, Bullshit, and Iranian Bullshit...not to mention WAR) I forget how to play both versions of Bullshit now too, but gosh...those were the days!

I play Cluedo and Yatzee with the munchkins every now & again...

Candyland and Chutes and Ladders were my very first board games.

No one has ever been able to teach me how to play Pinochle. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I feel like someone beat me with a bag of quarters today.
