Why would they suspend him? They let the entire Cincy Bengals team take the field this season and almost all of them have a rap sheet a mile long. LOL, sorry CL, but I know you know it's true.

They suspended Chris Henry for the first 8 games of the season, so they did something to somebody on the team. The infractions were really stupid last season: one guy was busted for driving his boat while intoxicated and another was busted at a DUI checkpoint when he went to pick up his girlfriend who had been pulled over and detained at the same checkpoint. So, while ESPN loves to chuckle about the criminal Bengals, it is almost always drunken shenanigans and not violence or brutality.

I know you're trying to point out that it wasn't senseless brutality, CL, but do you really think that suspending someone for drunk driving is a stupid infraction? I certainly don't think so, and I think that families that have lost someone to a drunk driver would agree.

I thought there was a dude that got arrested for beating up his girlfriend, and one for attempted murder or something. I don't remember thinking some of the crimes were silly.

Bengals 2006 Arrests

Getting any kind of DUI or DWI is just idiotic, in my opinion, when you are making millions and millions of dollars per year. You can hire someone to drive your drunk ass around. Those boys are big enough to where a .10 means that they were drinking heavily, not having "just one beer" at a party.

I completely agree, Fred. I was just pointing out the fact that the NFL is one of the worst pro sports to let their players go unpunished on the field for their actions off of it.

oh ok...gotcha. i know the NFL believes in 2nd chances but the nature of the crimes he's acussed of are so henious he gots to go....now. let it play it's self out with him on the sidelines

I would think that the NFL can't do anything until the outcome of the trial. Obviously, there is evidence for him to be charged, but it would be careless and irresponsible for the NFL to suspend him before the verdict is in.

Here is the complete Bengal arrest run down -- listed in order from "best to worst" by some internet goob named Larry Brown. The comments are his.

Chris Henry (June 14th, ‘06) - providing alcohol to three underaged females, but did he score?
Chris Henry (Jan. 28th, ‘06) - possession of a concealed firearm, improper exhibition of firearm, aggravated assault with firearm, that’s a lot of firearm action
A.J. Nicholson (June 3rd, ‘06) - burglary, vandalism, grant theft, *bonus points for stealing electronics from a teammate, that’s not easy
Frostee Rucker (June 21st, ‘06) - vandalism, spousal battery, just don’t beat up that blackberry
Reggie McNeal (Dec. 3rd, ‘06) - resisting arrest and drug possession, always fun to catch the cops with an elbow to the chest
Eric Steinbach (Aug. 5th, ‘06) - boating under the influence, admit it, you didn’t even know that counted
A.J. Nicholson (May 18th, ‘06) - domestic violence, he restarted the streak after they had gone four months in between arrests
Chris Henry (June 3rd, ‘06) - DUI, 0.092, I’d blow that from a sip of Manischweitz

Odell Thurman (Sept. 25th, ‘06) - drunken driving, a 0.18, but he was more sober than Chris Henry or Reggie McNeal, so it’s all good
Deltha O’Neal (Dec. 9th, ‘06) - DWI, come on a 0.10 shouldn’t even count

Matthias Askew (July 22nd, ‘06) - disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failure to comply with police officer’s order, obstructing justice, kinda boring
Chris Henry (Dec. 15 ‘05) - weed possession, just kids being kids

Quincy Wilson (June 17, ‘07) - disorderly conduct, kind of weak, but cool that the bride and groom were arrested too

Yep, that's the link I posted, CL. I still don't see where domestic violence isn't a serious offense. OR where aggravated assault with a weapon isn't. OR where resisting arrest isn't. It might pale in comparison to Vick, but I'd rather a guy be having dog fights any day to a man that feels that beating on a woman 1/5 his size is acceptable behavior that doesn't need to be sanctioned.

sure they can. he's tainted the image of the league. that coupled with him flipping off the fans are enough. not to mention him looking the commish in the eye and swearing he had nothing to do with it. does the NFL really want fans chanting "dog killer" and the like at every Falcon road game?

Yes, but until the courts render a decision it would still be irresponsible, at least in my mind. Our judicial system works on the assumption that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. It would be an assumption for the NFL to presume anything before the courts did, slapping a "guilty" label on Vick before any evidence had been heard in his defense.

Not that I am defending him, but I would never accuse him of being guilty until the courts announced the verdict. At least in the eyes of the NFL, anyway.

There are plenty of wife beaters and homicidal maniacs to taint the image of the NFL. OJ Simpson, anyone?
