Re: The History

I'm really touched that you girls remember me so far back! I really enjoyed our silly Bruce threads, Lara and Nina.

Bruce.net was the very first website I had ever visited publicly. I always thought people were strange for going to chat rooms & absolutely insane if they planned on meeting up! In a sense, I lost my innocence...but I gained my freedom in a time that I needed it most, and was able to connect with so many wonderful people.

I don't think I could have made it through some of the toughest times in my life without you & I don't know that I would have ever found so much joy, with my new found journey. But there's sadness too, and it's just something that I'll have to learn to live with. I listen to Bruce's music, and I find new meaning every step of the way.

"Together Wendy, we'll live with the sadness, I love you with all the madness in my soul....someday girl, I don't know when...where gonna get to that place, we'll walk in the sun..."

But till then, TRAMPS LIKE US, BABY WE WERE BORN TO RUN!!!

Ramona, you will always be my first Bruce bud. I remember when I came back after being banned by my old company and it was like coming home. Bruce.net will always be the reason that I delved so deeply into Bruce knowing that there were other crazies like me that loved his music so dearly. It made me feel normal, even though our obsession with him is the farthest from normal than you can get! It's so weird to think about how far time can take you from one place to the next. I love Bruce as the favorite artist that I will always hold closest to my heart, because of his lyrics and his own story, but I will always thank Bruce for the effect that he had on other artists that I quickly grew to love due to his influence. Johnny Cash, Jackson Browne, the Wallflowers, and mostly, The Clash. His music and his influence mean so much more to me than words can possibly say.

I know that Ramona has gotten a spouse from Bruce kinship. However, I feel like I got more than that, in a way. I got a friend that has inspired me more than anyone ever has with her wit and her kindness and her spirit. Bruceron/PuertoRicanJane is one of the best, truest, and most loyal friends that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. It is to her that I owe my dream of owning a house, my goal of finding someone that deserves me (that I have not found yet, but I have every confidence), and my renewed sense of self and being. She's the best! I am even going to grad school for the simple fact that for once in our lives, we will live closer than 6 hours from each other, and it is well worth every penny and moment!

Re: The History

Hi everyone, cj checking in for the first time in ages............
Sorry that I don't have a lot of spare time lately to catchup with all of the amazing folks I have met, both online and in person, over the years since being part of the original "Mary's Place".
It has been a fantastic jouney over the years but I will always fondly remember that very windy day at Wembley when I first met NP, annee, danhass, inger, northlondoner, davs65,welshgirl, muffin, nb, andrew.net, evans pa, bornin, estreetpete, dancin with Maria, riverlass, jungleland66, partridge (& Tracey), mayyourhope, rchinn, princess cards, FXRman and later met backstreetdrew, sherrydarling, faron, andyc, jill&davy, poohtoo, solidsteelcast, 10th avenue, nottm, racing scot, cat61 and many many more that I've met over the years.
I love the "old-new" board )z

Paul, you return for only one post, and this is what we get? It's shite! Come back when you have something bitingly clever and nasty to say to someone.

Great thread, and Hi Lara!

Various constraints mean that I hardly ever have time to visit threads outside Mary's Place these days, but I miss the folks at the Flood and elsewhere, just so you know.

A taste of the old days can be found here http://web.archive.org/web/20020912023113/discussions.brucespringsteen.net

That was a fun trip down memory lane! I found my review of the St. Louis show, posted at 2:20pm on August 31, 2002. I complained about people telling me to sit down when I wanted to dance, and two women who had a loud conversation all the way through "My City of Ruins". I did note though that it was great to hear Bruce do Downbound Train. He also played Thunder Road solo on guitar that night which is one of my favourite concert memories. I guess that was one of or perhaps the very last time he played it for 5 years .

I couldn't find my review of the Chicago show a month later which I began, "For You, For You, he played For You!!!!" Needless to say, I LOOOVED hearing Bruce play For You solo on piano.

I didn't post after that, nor see any more Rising shows for a year. My mom was diagnosed with cancer right before the Chicago show, and it shook my world beyond belief. Once we thought she had recovered and as the Rising tour ended, I started to post again. Haven't stopped since, as evidenced by my "voluble" rating. LOL!

I've met so many wonderful people here and they've brought me through some hard times in the last few years. Bruce fans ARE the magic in the night, and my faith in you has been rewarded many times over.

Thanks for sharing, Carrie - very emotional memories.

2002-3 was so significant for so many of us - in my case, not just discovering bs.net but also almost dying from a reaction to penicillin and then learning that I was adopted. Plus Jan 2004, discovering my brother who is also a Bruce fan. Unbelieveable stuff!
